South Indian Coffee At Starbucks? Yes Possible....

This document is to help South Indians who like their Thanjavur degree coffee and have a hard time in the USA - they cannot tell the American staff member in Starbucks - "get me a good South Indian coffee" or worse "a Thanjavur degree coffee" now. Outside Tamil Nadu, this coffee is also called Madras (or Chennai coffee).

But after a few trials at Starbucks, I have zeroed in the formula. I ordered it for my wife and our family friends, and they were reminded of their mother's best grade filter coffee.

Order Latte , it comes in more than 1 size:

  1. Choose the size and add one ‘decoction’ shot for 1 size:
    • Short (8 oz) should have 1 shot (short comes with one – no need for an extra),
    • Tall (12 oz) should have 2 shots (Tall comes with 1 shot –add an extra shot),
    • Grande (16) should have 3  (Grande comes with 2 shots, add an extra shot), and
    • Venti (20 oz) 4 shots (Venti MIGHT come with 3 shots – add an extra shot).

  2. Ask for whole milk,

  3. Ask for extra hot,

  4. Leave room at the top - essentially request them not to top it with milk, and

  5. Add 1 or 2 packets of raw sugar to taste.

Stir, sip, and enjoy.
